Dutch housing market hits new high: avg. home price €520k+
The Dutch housing market has broken another record. According to figures from the Hypotheken Data Netwerk (HDN), the average purchase price of a home in October reached € 520,600, up more than 4 % compared with October last year. Never before has the average purchase price been so high.
More mortgage applications
Mortgage application volume also grew slightly. In October there were 52,196 applications, representing an increase of about 4 % year-on-year. Around two-thirds of these applications were for buying a property; the remainder involved home improvements or refinancing of existing mortgages. The average mortgage amount for buyers was € 373,400, up around 2 %.
First-time buyers still active
The share of first-time buyers remains stable: nearly one in three mortgage applications came from people buying a home for the first time. Despite rising house-prices and increasing monthly payments, first-time buyers continue to find opportunities; supported by higher incomes and more generous borrowing norms.
What does this mean for you?
With the average home-price now topping half a million euros, the gap between income and house-price widens.
